Did You Know That Domino's and Subway Are in a Food Fight?

Summary

Domino’s press release, issued on January 22, 2009, announces the growing conflict between Domino’s and Subway. Subway issued a letter demanding that Domino’s, “cease and desist” from claiming that American’s prefer Domino’s sandwiches over Subway’s equivalent sandwiches by a 2-to-1 margin. Rather than back down from this claim, the newest Domino’s sandwich ads not only continue to use the claim but also feature the company’s CEO burning the Subway cease and desist letter in an oven used to bake Domino’s new sandwiches.

  1. Update: You can learn more about why Subway is protesting Domino's taste test in AdWeek's article:

In sum, Jeff Moody, CEO of the Subway Franchisee Advertising Trust, told Brandweek: "We don't think the test was legitimate and therefore the results are very misleading. The networks would not know enough about the operations of the companies to easily see through the flaws in the research. Therefore, as long as there was a big enough sample they would approve the ads, even though they are false."
