WWF and McKinsey Prove that Saving the Environment is Good for the Economy
On January 26th 2009, McKinsey and Co. released “Pathways to a Low Carbon Economy,” one of the most detailed studies of its kind, which demonstrates that a green economy utilizing new job-generating technologies would put us on a path for dramatically reducing emissions and keeping global average temperatures from rising above the dangerous threshold of 2 degrees Celsius, or 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit. “This report provides further evidence that we can grow our economy and cut greenhouse gas emissions at the same time,” said Dr. Richard Moss, vice president for climate change for the World Wildlife Fund – one of the studies 10 supporting sponsors.

NATIONAL HOT DOG COUNCIL JUMPS ON OBAMA BANDWAGON
On January 11, 2009 the National Hog Dog & Sausage Council attempted to self-promote their organization in a press release by capitalizing on then-President-Elect Barack Obama’s January 10th visit to a DC landmark, Ben’s Chili Bowl, for a “half-smoke” which they say “reflects his excellent and all-American taste in cuisine.” The Council saw this “historic trip” to a “famous DC Hot Dog restaurant” as a vehicle to get their organization media exposure via a clever, somewhat kitschy, play on words: “While most of America is vying for his palate, American hot dogs and sausages were the ‘weiners’ this weekend in Washington.” The release contains a tongue-in-cheek reference to the First Family’s children in an effort to send readers to their website and more importantly, to their self-produced YouTube video on how to eat a hot dog and “hot dog etiquette.”

U.S.-India Business Council Lauds Success of “Slumdog Millionaire”
This press release, issued by the U.S.-India Business Council applauds the success of the movie Slumdog Millionaire and draws attention to the problem of entertainment piracy in India. The USIBC President points out that piracy translates not only into financial losses, but 'squandered creativity', that potentially prevents quality movies like Slumdog from even being made. The USIBC suggests that due to the growing connection between Bollywood and Hollywood, both U.S. and Indian governments must increase their efforts to crack down on entertainment piracy. Their FICCI FRAMES conference to be held this year in Mumbai will feature a delegation of Hollywood heavyweights and focus on protecting creative content and intellectual property.
